Welcome to the Starbucks Hacienda Alsacia Coffee Farm

In beautiful Costa Rica, you’ll find the first and only Starbucks coffee farm. Here, our mission is to create best practices to make growing coffee more profitable for small-scale farms; develop the next generation of disease-resistant, high-quality coffee; and share information and resources freely with farmers around the world. We do this by leading the charge in creating sustainable practices throughout the coffee growing process, then sharing our knowledge and resources with small-scale farmers around the world for free.

Simply put, Hacienda Alsacia is the precious land where we channel our passion into positive change.

Experience Hacienda Alsacia in Seattle, Chicago and New York City

For the first time ever, Starbucks is bringing a piece of the farm to our customers in the US.

Through Summer 2024, venture into Starbucks Reserve flagship locations for an immersive journey into Hacienda Alsacia without leaving the city. Immersive displays inspired by Hacienda Alsacia’s trucks on the farm will “drive” into our locations—symbolic of how coffee beans are transported across diverse terrains in Costa Rica.

Within these displays, find our limited-availability Starbucks Reserve Sun-Dried Hacienda Alsacia El Roble Micro Lot coffee to take home with you, along with an exclusive collection of glassware, apparel and accessories that are inspired by our farm.

Barrier-Breaking Women in Coffee

Our partners are at the center of the fight for the future of coffee—several of which are women. Honoring Women’s History Month, Starbucks Reserve will spotlight Sara Bogantes and Loana Herrera—two of our leading agronomists at Hacienda Alsacia who are helping to develop responsible growing methods and creating breakthrough climate-resistant tree varietals that produce our Arabica beans.

The Proof Points

01: Committing to the Future

There’s no Starbucks if there’s no coffee. That’s why we're focused on fighting climate change throughout the supply chain—from our agriculture practices to how our stores are powered. Our goal is to cut our carbon, water, and waste footprints in half by 2030.

02: Sharing Our Knowledge

So far, Starbucks has developed six climate-change-resistant tree varietals that produce Arabica—a type of bean that is threatened by global warming. We share these tree seeds freely with farmers around the world, whether they sell to Starbucks or not.

03: Sustainably Sourcing Our Coffee

Starbucks is committed to supporting the next generation of farmers. Our farmer promise is to ensure a future of coffee for all.
Throughout the bean’s journey, from farm to cup, our commitment and responsibility to build a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient future for coffee is unwavering. Transparency is essential to fulfilling our mission, upholding our promises, and living our values. This ensures we support farms who promote the well-being of their workers, their communities, and the planet. It’s why we verify Starbucks coffee through C.A.F.E. Practices, our best-in-class ethical sourcing program, and make it available for farmers even if they do not sell coffee to Starbucks.
